Revolution is a national camp joint between Explorers and Network, but also SSAGO and SAGGA! It is held over the 4 days of the Easter bank Holiday weekend on the Isle of Wight annually. In 2024, many SSAGO members went from all over the country. Over the 4 days you participate in many activities that are all included in the price alongside the camp fee and evening entertainment. You are on a timetable which ensures you take part in all activities. There’s also a campfire every night!

Marathon Challenge is CUSAGCs annual incident hike for Explorers, Rangers, Leaders and all other over 14s in Scouting and Guiding. Teams are challenged to visit as many of the given 26 grid references in 9 hours as possible, the further out they go the more points they get. There are also some manned points with bonus points to give out for completing their challenge and penalties for tardiness.

On 11-12th March SCOGUI ran their annual Night Hike for Loughborough Guides, Scouts and Explorers. Teams between 4-8 participants ventured off on either a 10 or 13km walk in the Thurnby, Leicester area – completing tasks at bases along the way. They all did very well considering the bad weather but were grateful to come back to a bowl of warm spaghetti hoops upon reaching camp!

Aber SSAGO old and new descended to Silvercross Scout Campsite, Swansea for our 15th birthday summer camp. The club can trace its routes to as far back as the 1980’s but sadly it closed in the 1990s. It was given new life in 2004 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

On a weekend back in July, a group of stalwart SSAGOers survived Scout Adventure’s Gilwell 24 event, where a few thousand Explorers set out to stay awake from 9am Saturday until 9am Sunday, with activities and entertainment provided throughout.
The Student Scout and Guide Organisation was tasked as usual with running the soft drinks bar at the main arena, as well as providing a casual fire and, as we found, helping with just about anything!

In December 1973, a comet flew across the night sky, capturing the imagination of the public at large. Comet Kohoutek was a sight so wonderful, that it inspired an enthusiastic group of students at the University Bristol Scouts and Guides Society to launch a competition. Kohoutek was organised for the Scouts and Guides across Avon, and consisted of a series of challenges that each team must complete. The competition ran for over 30 years, until ending in 2006. With the recent revivals of Bristol and UWE SSAGOs, the two clubs banded together to restore to the competition to its former glory...

Marathon Challenge is CUSAGCs annual incident hike for explorers, senior section, network, leaders, SASUs, SSAGOs and all other over 14s in scouting. Teams are challenged to visit as many of the given 26 grid references in 9 hours as possible, the further out they go the more points they get. There are also some manned points with bonus points to give out for completeing their challenge and penalties for tardiness.

In August, five daring students from the Leeds University Scout and Guide society ventured to Luxembourg on a 10 day explorer belt. Our project was to look at how in a globalised world, how is Luxembourg keeping its national identity. This allowed us to travel across the borders into neighbouring France, Belgium and Germany to make a few comparisons. One underlying motivation for the trip was to promote adventure beyond Scouts and Explorer sections and that there are still things to achieve and adventures to undertake.
